Granara Ecovillage is located in the heart of Apennines on the border of Emilia-Romagna and Tuscany regions. It was an abandoned village that a group of urban youths slowly re-built and re-claimed from the wild, turning it into one of the first Eco-Villages in Italy. Today the Village is a place where different experiences of ecology can meet to ... dream, research, and experiment.
Appropriate Technologies, Environmental Education, Theatre and the Arts, along with nonviolence and social awareness have been the fields of research, practice and exchange that are at the core of the idea of the Village since the beginning. A small-scale organic agriculture and a hosting facility help us to remain open for volunteers and visitors. For more than fifteen years, The Granara Festival, at the beginning of august, has been the moment in which all these experiences come together and celebrate environmental and social sustainability, diversity, fragility, and resilience.
